Netherbird

DarkArt: How was born your band? Nephente: Netherbird was born when I and our producer PNA met during a studio job for another band. We got to know each other through this task that he completed, a quite complicated sound editing thing, and we realized we had a lot of ideas in common when it comes to how we would like a band to be. So it started out as discussion and we are both hardworking maniacs so we decided to go ahead and see if we could create a band that we felt added something to the music scene. Grim (guitars) and Bizmark (guitars and keyboards) were up for the task and hence we had the core line up ready. We started by writing the track Boulevard Black together and since we felt it was a track we all liked we have continued our journey into the darkness.
DarkArt: What are your motivations when you have decided to create your band? And why have you choice this sort of music? Nephente: We are all very different people with different tastes to what music we like but at the very core we are all into dark themes so music that sends that special dark feeling is what we all really like. It might be various forms of black metal, death metal, doom metal or gothic music. But it is also about other forms of art, we like dark paintings, poems and movies. I think we get as much inspiration from a movie like "The Grudge" as we do from a record we hear... so our motivation for Netherbird sounding and looking the way it does is our passion for the dark, sinister and "out of the ordinary". The music just happens and it sound like it does because it seems to be what we are about when we write it. We try not to limit ourselves by having a set sound. I can only promise that Netherbird will always be a dark and gloomy act.
DarkArt: What are your music influences and artistic? Bizmark: The normal thing would be to line up a bunch of old metal bands we've grown up listening to, but the truth is that I'm more inspired by people that break new ground, whether it's in art, music or daily life. We could have been painters for all I know, It's al about focusing the energy into a direction - in this case Netherbird. Netherbird represents artistic freedom and we make whatever music we feel like for the moment rather then searching for a specific sound. That it self creates the sound that is Netherbird. The same goes with the artwork and everything else that surrounds this dark creature.
DarkArt: What is the subject that you prefer to talk about in your text? Nephente: My lyrics are based on personal reflections about existence, life and death. I try my best to keep them open for the listener to make their own interpretations of the song in question. So there are no "I think this, so should you" to ever be found in what I write. But I write what comes to mind, always starting with the title and work my way from there.
Darkart: What is the song that you prefer playing at your show? Nephente: Netherbird has not performed live yet so it is to early to answer this question, sorry!
DarkArt: Skinny has played with you on some of your songs, how have you meet him? And how has it hapenned to play with him? Bizmark: Skinny is a close friend to our producer PNA and he introduced Skinny to Netherbird. Close after Skinny received the tracks from PNA it was clear that Skinny was up for the task and soon after the bass-lines was recorded. Skinny is an excellent bass-player and we are privileged to have him on the Blood Orchid EP and as a part of the Guild. The same goes for al the other musicians and artists that are contributing their dark arts to Netherbird. Nephente: We are very honoured to work with a talent such as Skinny and are very pleased to note that he and other very creative people agree to join us in the studio. It adds something to Netherbird that few bands can match, the possibility to have a line up that is exactly right for every track we do. No limitations!
DarkArt: What are your plans for the future? Nephente: We are working hard to reach out to listeners on Myspace and making people discover our first two releases: "Boulevard Black" and "Blood Orchid EP". We have two more EP:s coming out this year and are already writing tracks for a full length album that will released during 2008. So it is a very creative phase for us at the moment and the best part of it is that we now can talk to people about our music and get their opinions on what we do.
DarkArt: One word for our readers? Nephente: We are honoured by the fact that you have read this interview. If you like dark and vile metal you are very welcome to download our music and our CD-artwork from Myspace or our website.
And I would also like to thank you Melliarine for this interview. This is what makes the underground such a brilliant thing. This support means a lot to us!
