Deathstars:
Interview with Skinny Disco
![]() DarkArt: For all our readers who don't know your band much yet, can you tell us how was born the band?
Skinny: The band was the child of the underground Black/Death metal scene in Sweden. With members out of bands like Swordmaster, Dissection, Mynjun, Ophtalamia and many more. Deathstars was formed on New Years Eve 2000 but I didn't join the band until 2003. DarkArt: What are your principal musical and artistic influences? Skinny: My personal influences are very schizofrenic. I don't listen to music out of genres but as good or bad songs. I started of as a 7 year old boy getting interested in the metal scene with bands like Motörhead, Motley Crue, Twisted Sister and Europe. Thanks to my uncle who gave me his vinyl collection I started listening to bands like Black Sabbath, Led Zeppelin, Jimi Hendrix, Pink Floyd and The Doors at the age of 10. Out of that I started exploring everything from Jazz, Blues, Country to Death Metal and Crust Punk. Music is everything!! DarkArt: Skinny, for how many time do you play bass guitar and why do you have chosen this instrument? Skinny: I started playing guitar as a 7 year old cause of my mom and dad. First time I played the bass in a band I was 13 years old, we were playing Jethro Tull covers and were called The Four Jacks. Since then I've been playing both guitar and bass on and off. DarkArt: I think that Whiplasher writes the lyrics, what are the subjets he prefers to talk about and do you consult together about it or do you leave the field free for him? Skinny: Yes he does. The lyrics are about our lives and our way to deal with our everyday life. We are very much the same but still different characters, with different past. Still we can all relate to what he writes. We are best friends in the band and our lives affect each other. DarkArt: You are coming back from a two monthes tour, how this tour was happenning? Skinny: It was a great tour! Yet again we've seen new beautiful places that has been a pleasant surprice. We are really happy to see that people appreciate what we do more than ever and we're looking forward to get back out there with new material. ![]() DarkArt: Skinny, you have recently played on several songs of Netherbird, have you others projects like this apart from Deathstars? Skinny: No, I don't have time for any other projects these days. That's why I left Revolution Riot a year ago. DarkArt: For a few time, Whiplasher lives in London and Nightmare in New York, how do you work on Deathstars with these distances? Skinny: Just like this interview! Internet!! DarkArt: I have heard that the next album of Deathstars will be recorded in USA, could you give us more details about that? Skinny: I'm sorry! It's Top Secret. DarkArt: I know our readers are impatients to see Deathstars in FRANCE again (including me); could you tell us if you have already planned to return in FRANCE? Skinny: Our plans are to get all of our french fans to the planet Saturn and make a special show for you there. DarkArt: What are your plans for the future? Skinny: Live and get drunk DarkArt: One word for our readers? Skinny: I have more than one: Defonce moi le cul! DarkArt: THE FUN BONUS QUESTION: Do you think that the Eric Cartman's mother is a fucking bitch? Skinny: She's hot! But I still wonder who's that Uncle Fucker?
