Deathstars

Antwerp, January 28th 2008

On January 28th 2008, Deathstars performed the opening of Korn’s concert at Antwerp.
This brief first part started with a bit weak entering of each member of the band on stage, which is quite unusual from them, yet one could feel they were decided to liven things up the way they are so good at.
The band was starting its first song The Last Amunition, when Whiplasher got a serious problem with his microphone and had to borrow Skinny’s while waiting for anoter one to be provided to him from backstage.
The song then lifted off and the members gave their all, unfortunately in front of an unconvinced audience. At the end of the song, one could actually feel the members being a little disappointed while trying to rouse the crowd as best as they could, being generally used to a far more passionate audience.

Followed the most famous songs such as Synthetic Generation, Blitzkrieg, Cyanide, The New Dead Nation…etc.
More dynamic than ever, delightfully glam and energetic, the band gave all their best to the public, delivering a pure Deathstars performance, though they were unfortunately restrained by a small stage and a lack of organization not up to their performance. Whiplasher even threw one of his officer’s caps to a small bunch of people who suddenly and abruptly lifted themselves in hope of reaching him, while Skinny handed out one plectrum after the other. Their show proved to be excellent as always, in spite of the sound settings being more fit for Korn than Deathstars. Adrian Erlandsson gave his personal touch to the drums which sounded more brutal compared to Bone’s performance, but which fitted perfectly well, bringing a heavier touch to their music.
The public was finally revived, yet the show was coming to an end, abruptly leaving us hungry for more…
Thirty minutes of performance, in other words, a real insult to such a band as Deathstars ! But despite its short length, the show was excellent : intense and energetic. Deathstars definitely remains a band made for stage performance.
The only criticism I have to make first concerns the public who really was not up to such a great band, and secondly, the far too short performance, for Deathstars’ own disappointment if you want my opinion…
